John R. Kevern
John R. Kevern creates colorful ceramic totem sculptures through Raku-firing
clay and glazes. Ranging in height from two to nine feet and often modular in their design, the totem poles feature
playful facial expressions on one side and symbols of our times on the other. "Although lighthearted in one
sense, the Raku-fired works are technically innovative, illustrating an attention to craftsmanship that defines
the gallery's offerings," noted art critic Ann Wiens, viewing John Kevern's work at Vale Craft Gallery.
The artist received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Illinois College in 1981 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from
Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1985. His work is included in many private and corporate collections
including Arthur Andersen, The Mary Barnes Donneley Foundation, Urban Retail Properties, and P.R. 21 of Chicago. |
